"Innovation in airplane engine technologies in Puglia." This is the title of the conference organized by Avio Aero, held a few days ago at the Politecnico di Bari, to present the research and industrial development activities performed in recent years, including the Program Contracts funded by Regione Puglia.

Giorgio Abrate, Gregorio Di Magli, Giuseppe Giliberti and Giuseppe Pascazio presented the development work performed by Avio Aero in Puglia. "The level of innovation and technological maturity of the systems under research is such as to ensure the development of new certifiable products for aviation. And this is a source of great pride for us," Giorgio Abrate, Engineering leader of Avio Aero, declared.

In fact, for several years, the ecosystem in Puglia has offered a particularly favorable context for aerospace, made up of young talents, skills and collaborations such as those, for example, implemented in the program contracts with the Politecnico di Bari and with the Apulian Aerospace Technology District (DTA).

"The level of innovation and technological maturity of the systems under research is such as to ensure the development of new certifiable products for aviation. It is a source of great pride for us."

Eugenio Di Sciascio, rector of the Politecnico di Bari, explained the great value of the synergy that has led to the success "in a world in continuous change". In fact, Avio Aero has two laboratories within the polytechnic university in Puglia: one is the Energy Factory Bari, where the company works on the product development for engine control and enabling technologies for the use of electrical systems for aeronautical, naval and energy generation propulsion; the other is the Apulia Repair Development Centre, which repairs airplane engine components using additive technologies called Laser Deposition and Cold Spray.

Giuseppe Acierno, President of the Aerospace Technology District (DTA), underlined how "the success story represented by Avio Aero has been achieved thanks to a model in which cooperation prevails: synergy that has contributed to laying the foundations to return professionals in flight to Puglia." Acierno recalled that 10 years ago, when the DTA experience began, "in Puglia there was production without any design in the aeronautical world. Now the aviation product design engineers in Puglia have become ambassadors for our region," he concluded.

The Regional Councilor for Economic Development, Mino Borraccino, finally recalled, "Avio Aero is a flagship for Puglia in the fields of design, production and marketing of components, modules and engines for aircraft. Among the objectives discussed, I think it is necessary to call attention to two of them: the reduction of consumption (to limit environmental impact and to reduce operational management costs) and the reliability of the engines, in order to increase the levels of passenger safety."
